Melting Chest Animation Mockup

Working with the Design team, I came up with the idea for a reward chest that revealed its contents by melting the outer shell. I illustrated this in the concept and then created the melting animation effect for the VFX team to incorporate, specifically using the same topology so the effect could animated with a cheap interpolated vertex animated texture (VAT) rather than a costlier per-frame flipbook from a full liquid sim with shifting topology.
